What we do
We support children and youth to reach their full potential!
We run shelter homes, schools and a reasonable mess that helps such needy young people. We also have our helpline offices that can be approached at any time.
Agriculture and Animal Resources
Agriculture is crucial for Rwanda’s growth and reduction of poverty, as the backbone of the economy. It accounts for 39 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), 80 percent of employment, 63 percent of foreign exchange earnings, and 90 percent of the country’s food needs.
Agriculture plays a major role in economic growth and development. As the provider of food, it is a cornerstone of human existence. As a furnisher of industrial raw materials, it is an important contributor to economic activity in other sectors of the economy.
ECBL/TENGAMARA RWANDA is committed to work consistently and collaboratively with the Ministry of Agriculture & Animal Resources to provide better livelihoods to the Rwandan people, and developing public policy that will beneficially impact the social, economic, and political environment within the agriculture sector.
At ECBL/TENGAMARA RWANDA we are committed to working together to find and implement innovative projects that achieve development impact. That’s why we build strategic partnerships that promote agricultural development, economic growth, and food security. As a result, local communities are able to enhance resiliency, increase incomes, and improve nutrition. Our projects address food security for vulnerable populations, ensure improved livelihoods for smallholder farmers, and provide stable access to nutritious food, eradication of malnutrition and stunting among children
Education and Youth
Education is the backbone for a country’s socio-economic development. Education provides knowledge and skills to the population, and shapes the personality of the youth of a nation. Education is very important for an individual’s success in life. Having education in an area helps people think, feel, and behave in a way that contributes to their success, and improves not only their personal satisfaction but also that of the community. In addition, education develops human personality, thoughts, way of dealing with others and prepares people for life experiences.
The Government of Rwanda’s Education Sector Strategic Plan for 2018/2019 – 2023/24 (ESSP) gives a blueprint for an education system that seeks to “ensure Rwandan citizens have sufficient and appropriate skills, competences, knowledge and attitudes to drive the continued social and economic transformation of the country and to be competitive in the global market”. However, a number of major challenges must be overcome in order to achieve this impact.
Education endeavors in Rwanda must overcome a number of challenges including dropout rates or low school attendance, absenteeism, nutrition, disinterest in education, early and unwanted pregnancies among girls, teaching methodologies, teacher development, and the need to develop a reading culture which means that even though there are children attending schools and complete a few years of education, they are often still unable to read, write and do basic mathematics.
ECBL/Tengamara Rwanda strives to apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to all activities and resources that serve children, youth, and adults. The Education Program Area (EPA) at ECBL/TENGAMARA RWANDA works to rigorously evaluate programs that aim at improving education access, outcomes, increase access to and quality of early childhood education, and improve school attendance and youth knowledge in reproductive health.
Diaconia, peace building and conflict resolution
By origin, diaconia was originally an establishment built near a church building, for the care of the poor and distribution of the church’s charity in medieval Rome or Naples.
By definition and meaning with an alternative spelling, diakonia, is a Christian theological term from Greek that encompasses the call to serve the poor and the oppressed. Diakonia is a term derived from Greek, used in the Bible, New Testament, with different meanings. Sometimes, refers to the specific kind to help any people in need. At other times, it means to serve the tables, and still, others refer to the distribution of financial resources.
At ECBL/TENGAMARA Rwanda, we believe that the poor and oppressed people exist everywhere. That is why in our diaconia program, poor people and oppressed ones need our support so that they can overcome that situation that would lead their lives to deep sorrow.
ECBL/TENGAMARA RWANDA strives to be a local leading organization, committed to taking on the toughest development challenges and to overcome them to achieve the better lives of citizens. Learning from Rwanda history and our experience, we promote tolerance and reduce vulnerability to violent conflict and disasters. Thus, ECBL/TENGAMARA RWANDA implements results-driven programs that successfully mitigate the effects of conflict, drive peacebuilding efforts.
Gender equity and inclusion
We endeavor to ensure projects which are designed and managed to promote gender equity and inclusion. At ECBL/TENGAMARA RWANDA, we believe that successful development must include the needs of everyone without any distinction. So, we work to design and implement inclusive projects that recognize how people’s multiple identities and the variety of differences that shape their human experience affect program outcomes. We believe that all people were created equal and in the implementation of all our programs we integrate gender equality and social inclusion. We also integrate safeguarding measures into our programs to protect people from unintended harm, such as preventing and responding to sexual harassment, exploitation, and abuse; gender-based violence; trafficking in persons; child abuse, and other forms of abuse.
Socio-economic development works
For socio-economic development works, our endeavor is to enhance entrepreneurship and wealth creation, competitiveness and trade, strengthened community or people’s financial management, self-reliance and power of association in group of savings and innovation for small business, livestock and decent jobs.
ECBL/TENGAMARA RWANDA understands that development problems are complex and interrelated. So, we rely on a combination of experience, technical depth, and unparalleled management skills to strengthen economic growth, development and trade in the community. From decades of experience, we know that financial means are key for personal and community-based economic growth and development and we work with people and community group in groups of savings so that they can increase their financial means and we endeavor to link them to financial institutions to fund their ideas and innovation to do their business. We promote entrepreneurship and strengthen the livestock to create, grow, and sustain small personal and community businesses that stimulate economic growth and self-reliance through capacity building and enhancement among communities.
Health and sanitations
In health and sanitation programs, ECBL/TENGAMARA RWANDA will take a lead to enable people capacities so that they can have access to medicines, health products, food to remain healthier and strong, books on hygiene and nutrition. For that to happen, there are need of other essential commodities which are elemental to ending extreme poverty, building human capacity in understanding and creating love of the gift of life.
Protecting the right of child
Nowadays children are victims of different sorts of violence physical, sexual and psychological/emotional violence; and neglect of infants, children and adolescents by parents, caregivers and other authority. These are perpetrated by parents or other caregivers, peers, romantic partners, or strangers. Violence has long term impacts on health and well-being of the children and sometimes result in death.
ECBL/TENGAMARA RWANDA endeavors to develop and implement projects that aim at assisting the individuals, Government, and other agencies in the implementation of the laws pertaining to violence prevention, strengthening positive norms and values, safe environment, parental and care giving support, income and economic strengthening, responsive services provision, education and life skills.
Environment and climate change resilience
Climate change is one of the defying issues of our time with increasingly apparent impacts on people. It has been evidenced that the scale and speed of climate change will result in degraded ecosystems and threatens to severely test mankind’s ability to adapt. Rising temperatures, altered precipitation patterns, sea level increases, altered bushfire dynamics and extreme weather events will retard economic development and pose increasingly severe threats to agriculture, international security, infrastructure, water security and energy systems, the poorest being most at risk.
ECBL/TENGAMARA RWANDA endeavors to develop and implement projects that aim at assisting in institutional capacity and knowledge management on climate change, adaptation and resilience, enhancing climate-resilient development pathways for transformative change, improving individuals’ livelihood and agro-ecosystem resilience and transforming traditional livelihood practices of vulnerable individuals.
